Something smart

I am from now on a blogger in Swedish. Not here of course. I won’t let my readers in Denmark, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Austrailia (and maybe other countries?) down. But my class at Medieinstitutet has started a new blog corporate called “Kan den inte heta något smart” or shorter “Något smart” which means “something smart”. So all of you who understand Swedish are welcome to read my – and of course also my classmates – blogposts at någotsmart.se.

October 2009

Life in General:

A lot of things happened in October, I was full booked the entire month and was barely at home. Therefore I ended the month with an All Saint’s weekend all by myself.

Friends:

The month started with a visit by Martin in the middle of the night. I hadn’t seen him for over 4 years so the day after I was really tired. The same week I was at a party hosted by a friend of Lorraine, along with her,  Sanna and some new acquaintances of mine.  One week later it was time for a cruise to Finland with my classmates which we called #knm08ombord. It was crazy, just as I had feared.

In the middle of the month I went to Linköping to have lunch with Pernilla and Alice before we joined up with Stefan and Tobias for a dinner at Doverud’s.  One week later I was back in their house when we celebrated Stefan’s and Anna’s birthdays.

Family:

It was my dad‘s birthday and even though it wasn’t an even number both me, my brother and my sister-in-law was at our parents house. During the stay we also went to the annually running competition Höstmilen and ended up in the local newspaper.

Personal:

In October I revealed my most geeky interest. Of course I also celebrated the International Teddy Bear Day ;)

School:

We finished our dementia project, had a successful pitch for an impressed customer. Later in October I had the last day in school for the year.

LiA:

I started my internship period with being sick and stayed at home for two days. But the rest of the month I only enjoyed my time at Tredje Statsmakten.

Social Media:

My internship was all about social media. I did social media research, social media strategies and used social media a lot on the behalf of Medierna.

I was also at a lunch together with Stockholm Social Media Club for the first time.

Trips:

Two trips to Östergötland was made in October and also a cruise to Finland with my classmates.

Sports:

I tried to get back on track with the training but failed because of chest pain.

Music:

Markus Krunegård released two albums and I couldn’t stop listen to the Benny song.

I also wrote a blog post about my interest in music.

Mobile shot:

Marcus, CC and I went to the newly opened waffle cafe in Norrköping. This is what I ordered:

Waffle.

Waffle.

79% of my classmates are on Twitter

Lately I have heard alot of stories about Swedish journalist students absence at Twitter. A lot of journalist students don’t even seem to know what Twitter is, which in my ears sounds alarming. But don’t worry, I can tell you there is hope for the future because there is a group of students in this country called KNM08, also known as my classmates.

I am at my second and final year, studying Communication new media at Medieinstitutet in Stockholm. The education is pretty wide but concentrated to focus on new media and a third of it is internship periods. In the future me and my classmates will probably work as web editors, journalists, informants, copy writers, pr consultants or social media strategists for example. Our first week in school, just over a year ago, we had a lecture held by Annika Lidne about social media. We got introduced to Twitter and from the beginning most of us didn’t really understand how we could use it. For me it took even three months before I registered a Twitter account. Having an account didn’t make it for me though. It took about four additional months before Twitter hit the fan for me and I understood how useful it can be. I started to follow more interesting people and I got followers myself, not only spammers and irl friends. After the summer more and more classmates of mine followed my line and the hashtag #knm08 was born. I should also add to this story that Annika Lidne isn’t the only Twitter active lecturer we’ve had in school during the past year. For example we have also listened to and had workshops with Joakim Nyström, Björn Falkevik and Johan Lange who all should have thanks for bringing social media to KNM08.

During the last weeks even the late adopters in my class have started to investigate the world of tweets and now 22 of my 28 classmates are on Twitter. Most of us are also active tweeters and at Twitter we communicate with each other but also with our future colleagues. Twitter has become a great tool for us to get an insight in our future labour market and the industry we will work with. I have actually even got my current internship at Medierna through Twitter.

So if you are on Twitter, say hello to my fellow classmates, they are great guys, really.

Miss Lo Hashtag

Here is a little movie about my classmate Lorraine who is a tweetoholic. I am also mentioned in the movie since I apparently have been to the same therapist. The movie is made by our classmate Sanna.
