Week fourteen 2010

This week was a four days week at work, a week that has been pretty calm since we haven’t recorded any shows at my internship with 30minuter. Instead we have had an election special week with shows that we made two weeks ago at the mall Hageby Centrum. The most interesting conversation this week was about transparency in small towns, a subject we discussed for a whole day, which lead to a blog post at någotsmart. The same evening I made a little page (in swedish) about an idea I had talked to @jimmyasklund about before. A tweetup at the zoo in Kolmården. Weirdly enough I got response from more people that I don’t know than from people that I do know at Twitter.

Evenings and today I have spent on trying to prepare for the presentation of my examination project and the opposition of Sanna‘s project aswell as the seminar I will give at Hela Kyrkans hemsida next saturday. I am getting a bit nervous for that seminar since seminars actually aren’t that common on my agenda. The presentation of the examination project feels like nothing in comparison.

Tomorrow I will visit my mothers work to get some physiotherapy in their warm water filled swimming pool. It’s a part of the recovery after the broken bones.

Recovery

Hey, it’s Easter holiday and I have got some days off work. I’ve been at 24NT, my internship company for two weeks now and it is both interesting and challenging. Working full time with an injured foot makes me a tired girl though so most of my free time I am sleeping actually. But I guess that’s what my body needs.

Three days ago I was back in Stockholm for a doctors visit and to get rid of my aircast which I had had for 3,5 weeks. So now I am supposed to walk on my foot. It hurts pretty much though but with lots of training I will come back.

While in Stockholm I joined @selanna, his wife Åsa, @rymdapa and @lilashrink at Belgobaren for a dinner. It was a very nice evening with lots of good laughs.

I took the train back to Norrköping at the Good Friday, actually the first trip by train since the accident which felt very good to do. The rest of the Easter Holiday was spent with my parents and their friends. Now I have one more day off before I am back to work at 24NT again.

Internship number three

Next Monday my third internship period will start. This time I am leaving Stockholm(!) for Norrköping to do my internship at 24NT and the social media integrated TV-show 30 minuter. I will be there for ten weeks and I am looking forward to an internship period where I hopefully will learn a lot and have lots of fun.

I already know that I will miss Stockholm though. I always miss Stockholm when I am in Östergötland and when I am in Stockholm I miss my friends in Östergötland.

Oh, and if you wonder how to get an internship with broken bones, try Twitter ;)

November 2009

Life in General:

November was a very hectic month. And as it wasn’t enough I got myself another internship company. But all in all I am satisfied with what November gave me.

Friends:

Sanna, Lorraine, Jenny and I gathered up in Jennys kitchen for some brainstorming about the spring which will include individual final projects for school, a collective blog and an event in may. We had lots of fun and got some really good ideas.

During a visit in Norrköping I enjoyed an evening at Världens Bar together with Pernilla, Stefan, Alice and Anna. And when Stefan visited Stockholm I had dinner with him.

In the end of the month, the first weekend in advent started with a 60’s party at Sanna’s place. The day after I took the train to Gnesta to spend the rest of the weekend at Josefin‘s and Björn‘s house for some pre-christmas-celebration or something. Nice people, nice food, nice mulled wine and nice Christmas songs.

Family:

My aunt Marianne and cousin Anna visited me again for another weekend with Millennium and gospel. We watched Flickan som lekte med elden at the cinema and went to a Kirk Franklin concert in Ericsson Globe.

I also visited my family i Norrköping for a weekend.

LiA:

In the middle of November I lost control over my internship when I worked faster than expected at Tredje Statsmakten. I solved the problem by doing the rest of the internship at Habit 50% of the time while I stayed at Tredje Statsmakten 50% of the time.

Work:

Together with my co-worker Birgitta I was at the Habit Fashion Awards in the Blue Hall in Stockholm City Hall where she was nominated as the best seller in Sweden. To bad she didn’t win but in my eyes she is the best anyway. We had a wonderful evening at the awards and atleast Birgitta will remember that for the rest of her life. I borrowed Lorraine’s camera for this evening and I am very grateful for that, but afterwards I regretted that I didn’t bring my own camera, ’cause then I would’ve had better photos now.

Social Media:

I participated in the Autumn competition at skyltat.se which I later won, I also blogged about my classmates on Twitter and ended up on Niclas Strandh‘s first list of blogging tweeps.

In the end of the month when the fashion store Urban Outfitters terminated all its staff the owner of their swedish domain name used social media in a try to help the employees. I wrote a pretty long blog post about that aswell.

Trips:

The trips I made during the month weren’t very far, one to Norrköping and one to Bondhälla (outside Gnesta).

Film:

As I wrote above I watched Flickan som lekte med elden in November. The film was good, but it shone though that it was made for TV and not for cinema.

Music:

I created a Christmas list on Spotify and let my tweeps add their favourite to it. Here is the result.

Photo:

It seems like I didn’t take any pictures with my beloved camera during November. Therefore, I have no picture of the month in this post. Unbelievable.

September 2009

Life in General:

Now when it’s really cold outside it’s all forgotten that we had an indian summer in September. The weather was lovely and made us swedes in a happy mood :)

Friends:

Lorraine, Stephanie, Susanna and I had a little party at Susanna’s place before we went to Lemon Bar where we met up with Hanna and Malin. The night ended with a little walk in the “early morning” together with Lorraine before we went home.

Family:

I went home to my family to attend a funeral together with them. Even though Bosse weren’t a family member he has always felt like one and it felt like a matter of course to be there.

Personal:

I started to write on the series of personal blog posts about my interests. I didn’t finish this project though and since I hate to start with projects and not finish them I hope that I will get time to write the rest of the posts this year.

School:

In school almost everything was about the dementia project but we also had some nice lectures and workshops with among others Björn Falkevik and Joakim Nyström.

LiA:

In September my hunt for an internship in social media got a result when I got my internship at Tredje Statsmakten Media who are producing Medierna in Sveriges Radio.

Social Media:

I read a lot of blog posts during September and I even had time to blog about some of them that I really liked, I blogged about Brit Stakston and about Kristoffer Björkman. The big discussion in the social media bubble this month which started already in August was about the pointless babble and even I wrote a blog post about it which I don’t feel ashamed about yet ;)

In my own blog I tried to write about my interests as I mentioned above. The blog also got a little revamp with new plugins and widgets.

I also got my second internship period through Twitter.

Trips:

There was only one trip made during September and that was to my home county Östergötland.

Technology:

Andreas Ekström announced the “no Google day” at the 1st of September. Something he failed upon already 7am but Google failed aswell when Google mail crashed in the evening.

Music:

I made a list of 100 tunes from the 00-decade which I realized was to early when Markus Krunegård released a new album with the song Benny. Although I have listened a lot to my list so I am happy that I made it.

TV:

I watched the TV-series Signé Chanel (Fashion House Chanel) in September and I loved it. Within an episode of 26 minutes I laughed, was annoyed and felt sorry together with the participants.

Mobile shot:

This is what happens if you give me a banana cause I don't eat bananas.

This is what happens if you give me a banana cause I don't eat bananas.

Photo:

When I am browsing through my photos I can’t find any photo from September. Can it really be true? No photo of the month? I don’t use my camera often enough…

August 2009

Life in General:

In august I went back home to Stockholm and felt really good about it.

Friends:

Susanna visited me in Norrköping. Together we visited Makkarakauppa and Kolmårdens Zoo and ate Greek food. I also spent some time with my friends in Linköping and in the end of the month we had a crayfish party at Tobias summer cottage.

Family:

My brother Marcus turned 30 and we celebrated him at his and CC‘s new apartment in Helsingborg.

Personal:

I wrote this personal blogpost about my mum

School:

School started again after 10 weeks of summer holiday. The first day we met our customer for the live project about dementia that we were going to start working with.

LiA:

I started to hunt for a place where I could do my second internship. The hunt took place mostly at Twitter and in my blog.

Work:

I worked first half of the month and ended the summer period at work and ended with a bit of golf playing and socializing in the forest with my colleagues. That was also the end for my summer blog.

Social Media:

I became even more twitter active and used social media to promote myself for another internship period. And as mentioned above I also ended the summer blog I had at work.

March 2009

Life in general:

In March I got to taste real life when I did my first internship. I realized that work > school.

Friends:

I had my first really great night out in Stockholm since I moved here. Together with Lorraine, Sanna, Susanna and Karin I had so much fun and I came home after the newspaper :)

Family:

My aunt Marianne and cousin Anna came to visit me during a weekend in the middle of March. We had a great weekend together with lots of good laughs.

LiA:

My first internship period at Habit started and I learned to wake up early in the morning. I got routines and after some months with a lot of stomach problems I started to enjoy life again. During this time I didn’t blog much though. Commuting stole my time.

Trips:

The only trips I did during this month were my daily trips to Lidingö when I had my internship at Mentor Online.

Music:

My aunt, cousin and I went to Klara Kyrka for a gospel concert with the Ådahl brothers where I got to hear some good old favourites of mine :)

Film:

When my aunt and cousin visited me we went to the cinema and watched Män som hatar kvinnor. A really good movie in my opinion. I also wrote a little review of it.

Living the journalist life

As I have written before I am currently doing my internship at Tredje Statsmakten who are producing Medierna in Swedish Radio P1 and at the fashion industry magazine Habit. Two different companies which are both working with journalism. But I am no journalist and sometimes I ask myself what I am doing at these places but the more I think of it the more it makes sense.

At Tredje Statsmakten, I work mostly with managing their social media feeds, helping them to develop interaction on their webpages and writing texts for the Web. Although I am not doing much journalistic work there, I am a part of their journalism and I do like it. I like to listen to their discussions and I like to be a part of the interesting programs they produce every week. I’m among really great and inspiring journalists and I really enjoy it.

At Habit I am working as a journalist. I am writing a few fairly (at least for me) big articles and even though I did my first internship there, it feels like a challenge, mostly because I haven’t written that much in my life, but also because I know that my co-workers at Habit are much more skilled and experienced than me. But I really like to be there as well. I enjoy the work I am doing and I like my co-workers who are good role models as well as good and inspiring writers.

Since Tredje Statsmakten and Habit have two very different editorial staffs it sometimes feels like I am living in two different worlds of journalism. But I must say that I love it. I like both places very much and it gives me a good balance to write about media criticism one day and about fashion the day after. I also get a healthy distance to both of these worlds.

So, why do I hang around with all these journalists?
For a while I thought I had lost myself a bit when I had driven my boat so much against the journalistic direction, because journalist has never been my final goal. But if I rewind the tape almost two years back to when I applied for my current education, I had one thing in mind. I wanted to become a better writer. I had applied for a lot of web editor jobs and been to a lot of interviews, but every time I was asked if I was a good writer I had no proof which showed that I could write. I thought that I was an OK writer but since I never ever had got my own texts critically reviewed, I knew that my words were not so heavily weighed. So, working with journalism now when I have the chance feels like the right thing to do. While I am gathering evidence for the future, I develop my writing and get useful experience. If I will work as a journalist in the future is yet to see but I think that I am about to eliminate the risks of being rejected as a not good enough writer for any other type of job. I mean, if I have got my texts published in a magazine, I shouldn’t suck anyway.

Under control again

I have been a bit lost during the last week. I lost control over my internship situation when I almost rationalized myself away at Tredje Statsmakten. I have worked to build up, streamline and automate the work of social media for Medierna for some weeks now. When we were all satisfied with the solutions I ended up with not enough things to do. I got a bit bored and started to feel bad over the whole situation. Those days when I had things to do I enjoyed my time at Tredje Statsmakten, but when I didn’t have anything to do I felt dissatisfied and not as a part of the group. Now I don’t blame anyone for this, I still like Tredje Statsmakten a lot, they are great journalists and I love to listen to their discussions. Internship means practice, and practice is most often trial and error. None of us knew how it would end up and even if I have personal experiences from social media, I have never worked with social media for a commercial purpose before. Apart from the summer blog I wrote last summer.

But problems are there to solve. I talked to the persons involved and after some discussions, I decided to find an alternative company to do my internship at for 50% of the time. But since it’s just five weeks left of my intership period it felt stupid to go to a completely new place and just work 50% of the time. It’s just… eleven days. That’s why I now will go back to Habit. The fashion industry magazine where I had my first internship in March-April. It won’t be the same thing as last time though. Only one person on the editorial staff remains of those I worked with last spring and they are now working in an open plan office, instead of their personal offices as when I was there. So I think that even if it’s the same magazine, I will get new useful work experiences.

The fact that Medierna and Habit are working with such diverse journalism, makes me think I will have five great and varied weeks in front of me. And now when things are under control, I feel good and happy again.

One day

That was exactly how long I had been on my internship before I got sick. It was the first time I got to call in sick during my current education. I didn’t even know the e-mailaddress to send my absent to.  I didn’t get time to do much yesterday either, we had a meeting the whole morning basically. And during the afternoon I was mostly sniffling and doing some research, I have got some ideas though and I hope most of it is doable.

Today I have been mostly been in bed watching the livestream of The Really Realtime Conference by Disruptive Media. The best speech was by Emanuel Karlsten about how Dagen made friends on Facebook. He made me wake up a bit. But most of the conference was actually really good, Annika Lidne had gathered some really good speakers there.
