The fashion panel hagglof

Today Melodifestivalen, the Swedish selection competitions for the Eurovision Song Contest started. The music genre is mostly not my cup of tea, the biggest reason for me watching it is to see the clothes. It’s over the years become like a tradition for our family to review the clothes the artists are wearing. Since I am at my parents place this weekend we were to my great delight able discuss the costumes tonight as well. A new thing this year was that I also reported on Twitter where I gave us the name “modepanelen hagglof” (= the fashion panel hagglof).

So, first of all. Let me introduce the fashion panel hagglof:

Herbert Hägglöf – My father, has been working in the fashion industry since he was 14, which gives him 47 years of experience. Educated long time ago at the merchant institute in Stockholm and the textile institute in Borås. Now working as a store manager at Lagos Mode in Norrköping, a fashion store that implements 20 million a year and since 2007 is part of Mich. Sandström AB.

Anita Hägglöf – My mother, educated seamstress in the textile town of Norrköping. Her biggest qualification in fashion context is to have sewed dresses for our king Carl XVI Gustaf’s prom. Left the fashion industry in the 70’s to start working with health care.

Maria Hägglöf – Yeah, that’s me. I think you know me by now. But if you don’t, I have been working  in the fashion industry from time to time since 1998. I have mostly got my experience from the fashion industry in the store Lagos Mode but I have also been doing internship twice at the fashion industry magazine Habit. Since 2009 I am also in addition to my education (Communication new media) working extra as social media consultant and advisor with customers from the fashion industry.

Now to our assessment of the clothes in Melodifestivalen.

1. Ola – Unstoppable
He got some trouble with his belt which almost came loose. But apart from that he had nice clothes, it suited him and his song.

2. Jenny Silver – A Place to stay
Disagreements in the fashion panel. Herbet said: “The legs were nice but not the rest”. Anita said: “Weird hips”. Maria said: “stuffed hips and lack of pants is not ok”

3. Linda Pritchard – You’re Making Me Hot-Hot-Hot
This performance was to messy for us and we all got headache, so the only thing we could say about the clothes was “almost the same as the previous artist” and “looong earrings”.

4. Pain of Salvation – Road Salt
During this performance I cried of laughter when Herbert expressed his views on the singer’s clothes. He thought that there is something wrong with the upbringing of a child who has got the opportunity to sing in national television to wear an undershirt and torn jeans. When he also saw that he was barefoot, he just drew a deep sigh and continued with typical Herbert-expressions about these clothes. I laughed and cried, I have seen worse but to some extent I agree with Herbert. I can’t say what Anita thought about this cause she laughed as well.

5. Anders Ekborg – The Saviour
Anders had a black suit which always works and it looked good. But even though we understood that he was meant to have a slightly sloppy look, his tie knot was silly and ugly.

6. Jessica Andersson – I did it for love
When I saw Jessica I exclaimed: “Look, a dress!” and Herbert answered “It was about time, we’re at prominent number six”. Jessica had the only real dress in the first part of the song contest. It was black, it was long and it looked really good.

7. Frispråkarn – Singel
A bit boring but classic. Our rating: nice and good looking clothes for being worn by a hiphopper.

8. Salem Al Fakir – Keep on walking
The winner of this part of the contest also is the winner according to the fashion panel hagglof. The only bad thing with his light gray costume is our cold winter. But it suited him perfect!

All in all the artists didn’t impress us much. Tonight’s best garment was worn by the presenter Måns Zelmerlöw. His blazer was above anything else.

November 2009

Life in General:

November was a very hectic month. And as it wasn’t enough I got myself another internship company. But all in all I am satisfied with what November gave me.

Friends:

Sanna, Lorraine, Jenny and I gathered up in Jennys kitchen for some brainstorming about the spring which will include individual final projects for school, a collective blog and an event in may. We had lots of fun and got some really good ideas.

During a visit in Norrköping I enjoyed an evening at Världens Bar together with Pernilla, Stefan, Alice and Anna. And when Stefan visited Stockholm I had dinner with him.

In the end of the month, the first weekend in advent started with a 60’s party at Sanna’s place. The day after I took the train to Gnesta to spend the rest of the weekend at Josefin‘s and Björn‘s house for some pre-christmas-celebration or something. Nice people, nice food, nice mulled wine and nice Christmas songs.

Family:

My aunt Marianne and cousin Anna visited me again for another weekend with Millennium and gospel. We watched Flickan som lekte med elden at the cinema and went to a Kirk Franklin concert in Ericsson Globe.

I also visited my family i Norrköping for a weekend.

LiA:

In the middle of November I lost control over my internship when I worked faster than expected at Tredje Statsmakten. I solved the problem by doing the rest of the internship at Habit 50% of the time while I stayed at Tredje Statsmakten 50% of the time.

Work:

Together with my co-worker Birgitta I was at the Habit Fashion Awards in the Blue Hall in Stockholm City Hall where she was nominated as the best seller in Sweden. To bad she didn’t win but in my eyes she is the best anyway. We had a wonderful evening at the awards and atleast Birgitta will remember that for the rest of her life. I borrowed Lorraine’s camera for this evening and I am very grateful for that, but afterwards I regretted that I didn’t bring my own camera, ’cause then I would’ve had better photos now.

Social Media:

I participated in the Autumn competition at skyltat.se which I later won, I also blogged about my classmates on Twitter and ended up on Niclas Strandh‘s first list of blogging tweeps.

In the end of the month when the fashion store Urban Outfitters terminated all its staff the owner of their swedish domain name used social media in a try to help the employees. I wrote a pretty long blog post about that aswell.

Trips:

The trips I made during the month weren’t very far, one to Norrköping and one to Bondhälla (outside Gnesta).

Film:

As I wrote above I watched Flickan som lekte med elden in November. The film was good, but it shone though that it was made for TV and not for cinema.

Music:

I created a Christmas list on Spotify and let my tweeps add their favourite to it. Here is the result.

Photo:

It seems like I didn’t take any pictures with my beloved camera during November. Therefore, I have no picture of the month in this post. Unbelievable.

October 2009

Life in General:

A lot of things happened in October, I was full booked the entire month and was barely at home. Therefore I ended the month with an All Saint’s weekend all by myself.

Friends:

The month started with a visit by Martin in the middle of the night. I hadn’t seen him for over 4 years so the day after I was really tired. The same week I was at a party hosted by a friend of Lorraine, along with her,  Sanna and some new acquaintances of mine.  One week later it was time for a cruise to Finland with my classmates which we called #knm08ombord. It was crazy, just as I had feared.

In the middle of the month I went to Linköping to have lunch with Pernilla and Alice before we joined up with Stefan and Tobias for a dinner at Doverud’s.  One week later I was back in their house when we celebrated Stefan’s and Anna’s birthdays.

Family:

It was my dad‘s birthday and even though it wasn’t an even number both me, my brother and my sister-in-law was at our parents house. During the stay we also went to the annually running competition Höstmilen and ended up in the local newspaper.

Personal:

In October I revealed my most geeky interest. Of course I also celebrated the International Teddy Bear Day ;)

School:

We finished our dementia project, had a successful pitch for an impressed customer. Later in October I had the last day in school for the year.

LiA:

I started my internship period with being sick and stayed at home for two days. But the rest of the month I only enjoyed my time at Tredje Statsmakten.

Social Media:

My internship was all about social media. I did social media research, social media strategies and used social media a lot on the behalf of Medierna.

I was also at a lunch together with Stockholm Social Media Club for the first time.

Trips:

Two trips to Östergötland was made in October and also a cruise to Finland with my classmates.

Sports:

I tried to get back on track with the training but failed because of chest pain.

Music:

Markus Krunegård released two albums and I couldn’t stop listen to the Benny song.

I also wrote a blog post about my interest in music.

Mobile shot:

September 2009

Life in General:

Now when it’s really cold outside it’s all forgotten that we had an indian summer in September. The weather was lovely and made us swedes in a happy mood :)

Friends:

Lorraine, Stephanie, Susanna and I had a little party at Susanna’s place before we went to Lemon Bar where we met up with Hanna and Malin. The night ended with a little walk in the “early morning” together with Lorraine before we went home.

Family:

I went home to my family to attend a funeral together with them. Even though Bosse weren’t a family member he has always felt like one and it felt like a matter of course to be there.

Personal:

I started to write on the series of personal blog posts about my interests. I didn’t finish this project though and since I hate to start with projects and not finish them I hope that I will get time to write the rest of the posts this year.

School:

In school almost everything was about the dementia project but we also had some nice lectures and workshops with among others Björn Falkevik and Joakim Nyström.

LiA:

In September my hunt for an internship in social media got a result when I got my internship at Tredje Statsmakten Media who are producing Medierna in Sveriges Radio.

Social Media:

I read a lot of blog posts during September and I even had time to blog about some of them that I really liked, I blogged about Brit Stakston and about Kristoffer Björkman. The big discussion in the social media bubble this month which started already in August was about the pointless babble and even I wrote a blog post about it which I don’t feel ashamed about yet ;)

In my own blog I tried to write about my interests as I mentioned above. The blog also got a little revamp with new plugins and widgets.

I also got my second internship period through Twitter.

Trips:

There was only one trip made during September and that was to my home county Östergötland.

Technology:

Andreas Ekström announced the “no Google day” at the 1st of September. Something he failed upon already 7am but Google failed aswell when Google mail crashed in the evening.

Music:

I made a list of 100 tunes from the 00-decade which I realized was to early when Markus Krunegård released a new album with the song Benny. Although I have listened a lot to my list so I am happy that I made it.

TV:

I watched the TV-series Signé Chanel (Fashion House Chanel) in September and I loved it. Within an episode of 26 minutes I laughed, was annoyed and felt sorry together with the participants.

Mobile shot:

This is what happens if you give me a banana cause I don't eat bananas.

This is what happens if you give me a banana cause I don't eat bananas.

Photo:

When I am browsing through my photos I can’t find any photo from September. Can it really be true? No photo of the month? I don’t use my camera often enough…

March 2009

Life in general:

In March I got to taste real life when I did my first internship. I realized that work > school.

Friends:

I had my first really great night out in Stockholm since I moved here. Together with Lorraine, Sanna, Susanna and Karin I had so much fun and I came home after the newspaper :)

Family:

My aunt Marianne and cousin Anna came to visit me during a weekend in the middle of March. We had a great weekend together with lots of good laughs.

LiA:

My first internship period at Habit started and I learned to wake up early in the morning. I got routines and after some months with a lot of stomach problems I started to enjoy life again. During this time I didn’t blog much though. Commuting stole my time.

Trips:

The only trips I did during this month were my daily trips to Lidingö when I had my internship at Mentor Online.

Music:

My aunt, cousin and I went to Klara Kyrka for a gospel concert with the Ådahl brothers where I got to hear some good old favourites of mine :)

When my aunt and cousin visited me we went to the cinema and watched Män som hatar kvinnor. A really good movie in my opinion. I also wrote a little review of it.

Boardgames:

A boardgame evening with my neighbours was announced so I brought Ticket to ride and went there, even though I usually don’t go to places where I don’t know anyone. They weren’t boardgame geeks like me but I had pretty fun anyway. I played against three guys and won :)

Music:

I listened to my old friend Gustaf Spetz at Mosebacke and bought his new album. I really like to listen to it from time to time, not only because he is my friend, he is also a great musician.

In February my camera died so I can’t say that I have any photo of the month :(

How does Christmas sound to you?

Soon it is Christmas time and as soon as it is Advent, I use to start making my list of Christmas songs to listen to. In old times it used to be in winamp, now it’s in Spotify. This year I have started one week earlier, because I want a crowd sourced Christmas playlist. I want you to add your favourite Christmas songs to the playlist and hopefully both you and me will discover some new favourites.

I only have two rules for this crowd sourcing which I hope you will follow.

  1. Do not delete tracks just because you don’t like them.
  2. Do not add any songs by Kikki Danielsson.

Ok?
Good.

My interests Pt. 4 – Music

Almost everyone is interested in music in some way. I am not more interested in music than ordinary people but since it is one of my interests just as any of my interests it should be a part of the series of blogposts about my interests. I’ll try to write about what music means and has meant to me during my life.

First something about creating music. When I grew up making music was a part of my family’s life. For example I had a brother who sang more than he was talking. Even though my parents had quit playing instruments it was a matter of course for me and my brother to play instruments as well. As really young kids we played with instrument toys such as drums and guitars. But when we became older it was time to play real instruments.  Since I always have wanted to do the straight opposite as everyone else I chose to play the trombone. I was one of  the only two girls playing trombone in Norrköping. After five years of industrious trombone playing I realized that I have no tactfulness, by then it had been long time since I had realized that I can’t sing and so I put the music making on the shelf.

Me playing drums.

Me playing drums.

What I have enjoyed more in life than making music is listening to music. As kid I was basically fed with Carola by my parents. When she won the Eurovision song contest with Fångad av en stormvind in 1991 I thought she was the best artist ever (I still know the lyrics by heart). I still like Carola, she’s a great singer and artist but it is not the music I mainly listen to.

During my teenager years I was a punk rocker. I started to listen to swedish punk when I was around 12 years old, at around 15 I discovered the skatepunk and after that it was only punk that existed for me. Swedish punk, english punk and american punk. Some of my favourite bands back then were Dia Psalma, Charta 77, The Clash, Blink 182 and Lagwagon.

Me with spikes in 2001.

Me with spikes in 2001.

Five years ago I regained my common sense and realized that there are other music than punk rock music worth listening to. I started to listen to rock, pop, some synth music and so on. Still I don’t listen to most of the music played on the radio but I have a much broader spectrum of music that I listen to. Since Spotify came I am also listening even more to music. Spotify is constantly running on one or two of my computers these days.

Some of my most played artists are Coldplay, Melody Club, Sigur Rós and Gavin DeGraw. The punk rock artists are rare in my playlists to be honest.

Benny

I am listening to one of Markus Krunegårds new albums. Lev som en gris dö som en hund. The sixth track on the album called Benny makes me think about old times in Norrköping. Benny was from the same hood as me. Even though he was drunk or high on drugs every time I met him during the final years of his life, he was one of the nicest guys I knew when I grew up. And it was just as Krunegård is singing, Benny wanted to live in freedom. There should be more people like Benny, he was never mean to anyone. It’s always sad when people like Benny are leaving us but I am happy to have known him.

When I am thinking of Benny I also feel happy, he always made people around him happy. I think about all the other guys who lived in the neighbourhood, those who were his closest friends. Some of them were my closest friends when I was even younger. Nice guys with a bit different plans for their future than me. Different but still alike.
